ASUS Crosshair V Formula Z

ASUS Crosshair V Formula Z

Asus sent us one of the best motherboards for the FX Vishera CPU, which contrasts greatly with the older motherboards’ features. Does it make a noticeable difference in output? The CFV is the Asus AMD lineup’s flagship. It is a board that is heavy on features and power supply to extract the maximum overclock from any CPU, which fits the soldered AM3 + socket.

It is designed especially for the FX octa-core processors with higher power requirements and a higher price.

The Formula Z is presented in a package quite similar to its predecessor, Formula IV.  Twinning out, anyone?

This line is designed for the challenging task of gaming, with all the higher power requirements and conveniences that a gamer seeks when setting up this multi-GPU machine. It’s also made to check the heavily shaded and tessellated titles on the shelves.

Asus has made quite some capable boards in the recent years, and this motherboard is part of their top line gaming motherboards. We chose it as our top pick for the best motherboard for FX6300. Bravo!

Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3

Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3

Probably the last 990FX chipset to be produced, the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 is a minor update to the previous GA-990FXA generations. This motherboard supports AM3/AM3 + series processors and offers high TDP CPU support with 3 PCIe interfaces that support Crossfire and SLI dual modes.

It has six SATA3 ports and support for RAID 0/1/5/10. A total of two USB 3.0 slots on the back with high-speed USB ports separately colored blue. This motherboard can handle water-cooled AIOs and many fans, although the headers for connecting external fans are limited.

The M.2 socket onboard, which allows you to add a modern M.2 SSD, is another excellent feature of this motherboard. This is a great addition as a single M.2 SSD can make a profound performance difference. As an AMD motherboard, of course, it works fine with gaming, even if the technology is outdated. Unless you plan to use a 1070 or a 1080 GTX graphics card, there should be no AM3+ processor or motherboard bottlenecking.

Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3

Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3

The 78LMT- USB3 is a budget AM3 + motherboard from Gigabyte that uses the low- end 760 G chipset from AMD and supports its FX, Phenom II and Athlon II processors. This chipset is at the opposite end of the spectrum, compared to the top range of AMD 990FX chipsets, and has fewer features as such.

The greatest omission here is the lack of support from SATA3. You have six SATA2 ports instead, which means that the motherboard supports a lot of storage, but the downside is that your disks won’t be as fast. This is not too much a problem for mechanical hard disks, as they struggle to use SATA3 speeds, but it is very limited for SSDs that require the fastest SATA standard to make the most of them. Although fast internal storage can be out of the question, at least the motherboard delivers super-fast external storage thanks to its USB3 support. This is a pretty rare sight on budget tablets.

ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0

ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0

In short, ASUS has delivered a mid-range board at a slightly lower price than a mid-range price (even before receipts). It works well, overclocks well, has features and expansion, and does not break the bank. If you had to ask me to improve the ASUS M5A99FX Pro R2.0, I would have to think very hard. Maybe the color scheme could be changed?  Perhaps the additional PS/2 port could be removed? Yet these are really minor issues. There is no important feature or specification I would change if I wanted to adjust things to my taste. Speaking of taste, let’s grab a snack while we finish the list!

All in all, the ASUS M5A99FX is a great motherboard for price and use. The motherboard was a solid rock while testing. ASUS also brings many features, including its UEFI BIOS interface and ASUS Fan Xpert, to the table.

MSI 970 AM3+ Gaming

MSI 970 AM3+ Gaming

In recent years, MSI has begun a new redesign of its motherboard portfolio with a focus on branding and presentation, rather than unique engineering features. The result is that it works, stimulated by the resurgence of reasonably priced PC gaming, and by presenting a product that looks better than most of the other brand’s products. When the 970 Gaming was taken out of the box, the first comment was that the PCB was relatively clean. There are fewer obvious traces due to the PCB coating, and the lack of SMT boxes for each IC makes the presentation more fluid.

As far as the feature set is concerned, the 970 Gaming provides an Atheros Killer E2205 network topology with bundled data packet priority software, gaming ports for supporting 1000Hz devices under XP and an upgraded Realtek ALC1150 audio solution with Sound Blaster Cinema. A PS2 port and PCI slots are bundled to improve the potential usage range and the 8 USB 3.0 ports on the board are supplied by VIA controllers.

Verdict

If you are looking to get the best motherboard for FX6300, we suggest you go with the ASUS Crosshair V Formula Z. It is a great motherboard from one of the top computer parts manufacturers.  The ASUS board is excellent in all its ways, even the price. It can be used for overclocking and performs amazingly. There are also some more budget oriented boards out there, but… Go with ASUS! We give it the green light!
